The Agency

Cavendish House
Misson One - Session One

Mission Outline:

Briefing by Doctor Montague; Two agents completing a standard data recovery sweep have not reported in and are now considered missing. Their vehicle has been recovered from the River Thames. Your field squad is to investigate their disappearance.

Investigative Report:

The forensic report for the vehicle indicates no tampering, all items and fixtures remain intact. The GPS black box for the vehicle covers their standard collection route with a final ‘on route’ report before an extended stop and then a course deviation ending in the river. Mobile phone carrier-network reports for the two agents are also lost at this point. Tracking subsequent vehicle progress from last point of contact via in-situ CCTV in the area reveals a heavily obscured humanoid driving the car via the least observed route to the river location where the car was recovered. Correlation of vehicle course, travel times and CCTV footage gives the probable point of origin as an old boarding house.

Basil X goes to investigate the paper records for the address at the records and municipal facilities. Mohinder begins searching all the electronic records regarding the location. Wilkes prepares a surveillance package to be deployed at a nearby residential address overlooking the target building.

Basil reports that the owners of the building are ‘The Cavendish Trust’ and heads out to locate and information about the owners. Mohinder reports that the building has been growing in size (with no corresponding municipal records) and in is now three stories tall, one prior report from 1906 places the size at only two. The building is officially registered as a ‘Boarding House’. The surveillance package shows signs of four people at the address, none of these match the missing agents, background checks on the four residents also show nothing of interest. Basil returns from his genealogical search, the current manager is one William Cavendish, a gentleman in his 70s.

Basil is making preparations to fake an emergency (Gas Leak) on the street so we can investigate the properties, with uniforms and equipment for the local gas regulation authority. Exterior investigation from the sewer (while setting up the fake gas leak) show that piping has been diverted around the base of the building which now extends two floors underground. Timers are set on the vapour canisters and we return to street level.

Field Report:

We present ourselves at Cavendish House for the purposes of inspection, we are greeted by William Cavendish who allows us entry to check the premises. First floor has two rooms, one occupied by young man in his twenties, the other empty and we proceed upstairs. At the first upstairs room Basil claims to smell the leak and walks into the rooms kitchenette and points at some of the fittings, as soon as Mr Cavendish walks within his range Basil lashes out at him with the gas-meter sending William staggering into the room before it descends into a brawl. Mohinder throws a chair, Bill knocks Cavendish to the floor and Mohinder tries to restrain him but Cavendish grabs him by the neck and stands up with Mohinder as a hostage demanding that we stop attacking.

Basil steps in from behind and kicks Cavendish in the side of the head, Bill steps up and punches past Mohinder striking Cavendish down to his knees while Mohinder sprawls free, spins and topples over trying to kick Cavendish. At this point Cavendish pushes his hands down onto the carpet and the surrounding structure rapidly decays, looking oddly distorted Cavendish states ‘_You shouldn’t have done that_’, screaming is heard from the surrounding rooms. The agents open fire, small arms fire from Bill and Basil seems pass through him, tearing his clothes and spraying blood but the wounds close immediately, Wilkes throws a vial of holy water on Cavendish to no effect, Mohinder steps up and unloads a sawn-off shotgun at point blank, the arm is visibly severed with protruding bone before returning almost immediately to an unharmed state. Cavendish stands and grabs Mohinder who is closest, and snaps his head clean to one side.

Bill leaps down from some surviving furniture, his overhead smash bouncing off Cavendish who appears to act like part of the structure, Basil tries to spear-tackle him out the window to separate him from the structure but likewise is deflected off without apparent affect, Cavendish throws the limp corpse of Mohinder aside. The nearby agents seem to be being physically drained and Cavendish appears impervious to any physical harm the squad can deliver. Wilkes turns from the combat and runs downstairs yelling ‘Abandon Ship’, Theo follows Wilkes down as the brawl continues. Wilkes loads a microwave with some kitchen spray cans, kicks out the stove gas joint and hits the button. Bill has also disengaged and is coming down the stairs, the call to abandon is given again and Bill, Theo and Wilkes exit through the front door as Basil comes through the upper window landing awkwardly in the grounds, the mobile agent collect Basil and are dragging him back to the vehicle as the gas explodes through the house smashing out windows.

Mission One - Session Two

The windows of the house are actually broken, but the flames are roiling inside the structure without coming out the windows. The top story of the building collapses as Basil is carried to the van. Theo administers First Aid as the remaining agents decide to retreat to base for debrief and consultation with their supervisor. Before they drive off, another story of the house collapses downward leaving the house only 1 story tall. No indication of what might be happening underground.

As the van pulls into the Agency compound Doctor Montague is waiting to greet them as well as Mohinder. It should be stated at this point that Monhinders has the ability to return to a host body upon the death of his present vessel, the Agency has several clones on hand for this purpose. Mohinder reports that after the death of his previous vessel he was able to observe a large ‘presence’ in the basement of the house (which has some kind of connection/link with Cavendish) which tried to draw him in before he returned. Montague reports that the entire structure has vanished leaving a two story hole, the surveillance equipment shows a large humanoid emerging from the pit with a stone table and walking off. Mohinder tracks the man via CCTV in the area, probable destination is believed to be a heavily populated nearby train station. The likely consequences of the application of the entities known powers in such a heavily populated area could be catastrophic.

The squad is granted access to a helicopter to approach the scene given the gridlock that has developed (rush hour). Basil is loaned a small artefact (a jade frog) which seems to let him function even in his wounded state, the consequences of accruing further injury are not revealed. Given Cavendish’s new strength the agents devise the use of a river launch with the idea of harpooning the figure and using the launch to tow him downriver where Bill will be waiting in ambush with an RPG to physically incapacitate (even momentarily) him so he can be separated from the stone.

We meet the river launch at the bridge and Suil attached the lanyard to a harpoon, as Cavendish approaches Suil steps out and throws the harpoon slaying a nearby taxi tire, Cavendish retrieves the harpoon and Suil escapes by leaping down into the river, Cavendish tries to impale Suil as he’s being recovered by the launch but misses and drives the harpoon into the decking. We will now need to confront Cavendish directly before he can gain entry to the train station and the helicopter picks Suil, Basil and Bill up from the boat and the Agents are inserted at the nearby train station.

Wilkes rings the fire-alarm at the station to try and clear as much of the populace as possible, Mohinder hijacks a taxi while Bill, Basil and Suil take up positions at the end of the street towards the bridge, Theo is setting up some gas launch hypodermics. Mohinder guns the stolen taxi at the advancing Cavendish, missing him completely and smashing into a nearby bridge pillar. A bemused Cavendish reaches through the smashed window and hefts Mohinder aloft by his neck again. The other agents see Mohinder and Cavendish talking.

Radio Excerpt: Agent Bill XX/XX/XXXX, 16:14: ‘_Well, he’ll be back_’

Agents report Cavendish is hit dead centre by Bills RPG round throwing the table across the bridge, no recognisable section of Mohinder remains. Momentary confusion reigns as no warning had been given, still Suil and Basil approach the still moving form of Cavendish (torso, head and one arm) and begin to subdue it.

Mohinder calls from his new body and states that Cavendish is feeding off the stone. Wilkes approaches the fallen stone and calls in the waiting helicopter. Suil and Basil continue to attack the rapidly regenerating Cavendish (Suil manages to spear him in both eyes impeding his attacks) as Wilkes secures the lifting cable and the helicopter lifts the table away from the scene and heads north out of the city. As the distance between Cavendish and the stone grows the regeneration slows and he switches to defending himself at which point Theo steps forward and administers a large dose of paralysing agent via his needle gun. As much of Cavendish as can be recovered is unceremoniously collected and carted to the bridge steps, agents board the waiting river launch for return to base.

Debrief:

The remaining section of Cavendish is well animated and he continues to make various threats against us and the Agency. Suil severs the head from the torso, thereafter the head mouths obscenities and glares balefully at anyone in it’s presence. Suil requests a piece of Cavendish’s brain (apparently to eat) so he can know what he’s thinking. An iron lung is attached to the severed head so Cavendish for the purposes of interrogation, resulting information is as follows

*The stone is the remains of a sacrificial altar
*Cavendish is approximately 3500 years old and helped with the altars construction
*The stone is capable of storing ‘energy’ (not quantified)
*When the stone became ‘full’, Cavendish started forming the additional energy into the house
*A translation of the symbols on the altar (including corrections)
*Has powers of Obfuscation and Mind Control, alludes to other spells (not quantified)

Cavendish petitions to be held as a prisoner, offering his knowledge in exchange for continued existence. Command review on this matter is pending.

Kent Anomaly
Mission Two - Session One

Mission Outline:

Briefing by Doctor Montague; A large atmospheric anomaly has appeared over a town in Kent. It appears to be centred over an experimental physics lab in the area. Satellite and surveillance footage shows a dark swirling mass with rapid discharge of lightning.

Investigative Report:

Directory shows the labs to be the Kent Applied Particle Physics and Associates (KAPPA Labs). The town has an estimated population of slightly over 5000 but all contact with the area has been lost, the are no heat or electrical signals visible on the reconnaissance images.

Field Report:

Field squad deployed in hardened APC, on road approach multiple vehicles visible, no occupants. All vehicles appears to have coasted off the road, all the vehicles and items remaining (phones, iPods etc) are all drained of power although otherwise unharmed. As the APC approaches town a single figure is seen exiting a building, agents give chase on foot but even with his backpack he manages to stay ahead even after pausing to shake a white and blue cube at his pursuers , when this has no apparent effect he continues to flee. Theo and Wilkes return to the APC to give chase while Suil, Basil and Bill continue the persuit on foot.
